Re-introductions
What's Learn at Lunch (L@L) anyway?
The Center for the Advancement of Teaching (CAT) champions innovative teaching grounded in inclusive practices to promote learning for our diverse student population at the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA). As part of this mission, we create regular programming that engages with instructors of all disciplines and titles.
When Learn at Lunch (L@L) was originally designed, we sought to create a dedicated space where instructors at UCLA could meet weekly to learn about and practice cutting-edge learning strategies while building a community centered around intentional pedagogy. At noon once a week we would hold a synchronous session where educators of all types at UCLA were welcome to join us to learn about innovative teaching strategies while enjoying their lunches. With the COVID-19 pandemic increasing burnout and zoom fatigue, we’ve decided to update our format to make it more accessible to YOU.
The content on this substack will replace the information dump that originally figured as part of our weekly, live L@L sessions. We’re still interested in cultivating a community of UCLA instructors and providing an intentional space where we can brainstorm together and workshop teaching strategies such as those we introduce here! That said, starting in Fall 2022 we will meet synchronously over Zoom on the first and third Thursday of each month. Future events will be posted on the CAT Events page and you can find more information and access previous sessions in our Learn at Lunch program page.
We will be posting to this substack about a variety of topics such as microtips on teaching, instructional resources at UCLA, and spotlights on UCLA educators. Please consider subscribing both here and to our @uclateaching Twitter account!
Thanks for joining us on this journey!
